Missing Chicago teacher may need medical attention: Police

CHICAGO — A Chicago Public Schools teacher who may be in need of medical attention is missing from the city’s South Side.

According to police, Linda Brown, 53, was last seen Jan. 3 in the city’s Bronzeville neighborhood.

A missing persons flyer shared by the Chicago Teachers Union says Brown was headed to Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood for an appointment, but never arrived. She was driving a 2021 blue Honda Civic with the Illinois license plate No. CX57470.

Police believe she may need medical attention.

Brown is described as about 5 feet tall, 130 pounds, with brown eyes and hair. Anyone with information on Brown’s whereabouts should contact Area One SVU detectives at (312) 747-8380.

‘This is so out of her character to be missing’

Family members who spoke with NewsNation affiliate WGN say Brown’s sudden disappearance is concerning. Since leaving her home, only silence has followed, deepening worries for Brown’s loved ones.

“This is so out of her character to be missing,” said Lisa Quintana, Brown’s sister.

Brown’s husband, Antwon, maintained that something is off.

“She normally answers when I call,” he said.

Quintana echoed Brown’s sentiments, adding that her sister is “in contact with Antwon all the time, no matter where she goes (or) what shes doing, he knows where she is at.”

Family members shared on Monday that Linda Brown had been experiencing mental health challenges and was actively receiving support. Still, they don’t believe she would intentionally disappear, nor would she miss school, given that students who rely on her would miss out.

“That was her main thing, helping kids. She loved it. Never missed a day of work. She always went and she always had a smile on her face. Positive attitude all the time,” Brown said.

Family members are hopeful for Brown’s safe return and remain thankful to the community for its support and search efforts.

“Baby, I just want to let you know, ‘We love you,'” Antwon Brown said. “We want you home.”
