(NewsNation) — A missing Mississippi mother and her three-year-old daughter have been found dead, according to authorities.
Shardee McGill and her daughter, Janae, were reported missing last week. Authorities issued several alerts to the media as they searched for them, but said the case did not warrant an Amber Alert because it was not a kidnapping.
According to police, McGill and her daughter left their home in Jackson, Mississippi, on Sunday, Sept. 21, traveling in her Chevrolet Equinox.
McGill’s husband, Jonathan McGill, reported his wife and daughter missing the next day. The FBI assisted local law enforcement in the search.
On Tuesday, police found the abandoned vehicle in Epes, Alabama, a town about 130 miles from Jackson.
Shardee McGill’s body was found on Thursday, Sept. 25, in a “shallow body of water” in Epes.
Janae’s body was found a day later, not far from her mother’s.
Jonathan McGill was questioned by police after traveling to Alabama and then released by authorities.
The cause of death for Shardee and Janae McGill has not been released, but police said they consider the death suspicious.
No suspects have been named, and no arrests have been made.
