(KRON) — The woman who went missing in the Sierra Nevada while hiking the Codfish Falls Trail in Placer County Friday is 40-year-old Eryn VanAcker of the Bay Area, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.
VanAcker was last seen hiking along the North Fork American River with her dog around 2:30 p.m. She was reported missing after her dog was found wandering the trail alone.
The search and rescue team with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office began looking for VanAcker around 6 p.m. Friday. Rescuers found the woman’s phone and a dog bowl near the river’s edge. As of Monday afternoon, she remains missing.
“It is believed she went into the water and was swept away in the North Fork of the American River upstream from Lake Clementine,” the sheriff’s office announced Monday.
Professional rescue divers and rescue boats continue to search the river for any sign of the missing woman. The sheriff’s office is asking the public not to help with the search due to the dangerous river conditions.
“We continue to receive many offers from community members who want to help, and we truly appreciate that support,” the sheriff’s office said. “For everyone’s safety, it is best for this search to be conducted by trained professionals using specialized equipment and the latest technology.”
VanAcker’s disappearance is not considered suspicious at this time, authorities said.
“At this time, there is no evidence indicating anything other than an accidental incident, though all possibilities continue to be evaluated,” the sheriff’s office said.
