DENVER (KDVR) — Nearly 30 years after 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey was found murdered inside her Boulder home, police are still looking for answers.

The six-year-old beauty pageant star was reported missing from her home in Boulder on Dec. 26, 1996. The family later found her dead in the basement of the home. After about 29 years, no one has been convicted of her murder, but the Boulder Police Department hasn’t given up.

On Friday, the Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn provided a yearly update in the investigation, and over the year, they have conducted several new interviews, re-interviewed individuals based on tips, collected new evidence and re-tested other evidence for new leads.

While he can’t go into the specifics of what police tested, who was interviewed and what they learned without compromising the investigation, Redfearn said this case is still a “top priority.”

“My direction to our department has been clear: leave no stone unturned, follow the leads wherever they go, engage with, and use outside partners’ resources and expertise, and never stop working to bring justice to this case,” Redfearn said.

Redfearn said detectives are continuing to consult with experts across the country, as well as state and federal partners, on all evidence testing options. Detectives will also continue to follow every lead and look into technological advances.

“Our detectives will not stop following up on every lead and every tip until that person or persons is found,” said Redfearn.

This update comes after the last yearly update in 2024, when Redfearn said the department was working through tips that the cold case panel gave the department in 2023. Redfearn also addressed the docuseries that premiered in 2024 that suggested the errors made in the investigation. The department said the claims made about viable evidence and leads they’re not pursuing was “completely false.”
