(NewsNation) — Authorities in Nebraska have located what may be human remains and said they were conducting a forensic investigation to gather more information.
The family of Chance Englebert, missing since 2019, was reportedly told the remains could be his.
Englebert disappeared six years ago after arguing with his wife and her family. After saying he wanted to go back home to Wyoming, an upset Englebert got out of his wife’s car and began walking.
Surveillance video showed him walking through Gering, Nebraska, about an hour before a storm came through the area.
Investigators confirmed that on Oct. 10, 2025, police in Gering responded to a call of bones found at the Scotts Bluff National Monument.
After determining the bones appeared to be human remains, investigators conducted additional searches, including the use of cadaver dogs.
According to a news release, the police department was searching for a facility that could conduct forensic examinations to gather more information about the remains.
