(NewsNation) — New court documents revealed 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro could have been killed as early as Aug. 5, nine days before his mother reported him missing.

The information emerged Tuesday as Rebecca and Jake Haro were formally charged with the murder of their son. Riverside County prosecutors have asked they be held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Emmanuel Haro’s parents charged with murder

The couple has also been charged with making a false police report after Rebecca Haro reported Emmanuel missing on Aug. 14.

She told police she was changing his diaper in a store parking lot in Southern California when someone knocked her out and kidnapped the infant.

Brian Cosgrove, a deputy public defender, spoke outside the court Tuesday and said the parents would need separate representation.

The couple’s arraignment has been moved to Sep. 4, and according to Cosgrove, the parents have not yet retained private counsel.

Rebecca and Jake Haro appear in court

The Haros were both in court Tuesday, and court documents shed new light on the charges they face.

Investigators wrote, “Jake Mitchell Haro and Rebecca Renee Haro committed a violation of Penal Code section 187, subdivision (a), a felony, in that on or about August 5, 2025 through and including August 14, 2025, in the County of Riverside, State of California, the defendant(s) did willfully and unlawfully murder BABY DOE (E.H.).”

The documents also laid out a second charge: “On or about August 14, 2025, in the County of Riverside, State of California, the defendant(s) did willfully and unlawfully report to a police officer, deputy sheriff, and member of the California Highway Patrol that a felony and misdemeanor has been committed knowing that report to be false,” the document reads.
