(NewsNation) — Police on the Turks and Caicos Islands say authorities have recovered a decomposed male body in an area where a 51-year-old New York man disappeared late last month.

Brian Tarrence of Manhattan was last seen on surveillance video early June 25 walking alone in Grace Bay on the island of Providenciales, police said, after reportedly leaving the Airbnb where he was staying with his wife. The couple had arrived at the tropical destination June 22 and were scheduled to leave June 29.

A man’s decomposed body was found Saturday in the Grace Bay Police Districts, authorities said. Identification was pending.

“The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. We urge members of the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigative process to confirm the identity through official channels,” officials said in a posting on social media.

Tarrence and his wife had been on vacation and went on a boat ride and out to dinner the day before his disappearance, a private investigator hired by the family told media outlets.
