(NewsNation) — The human remains of a teenager from Alaska who’s been missing for two years have been found, state police said.
Ataja Banks, 18, was identified by Alaska’s Medical Examiner’s Office after it completed an autopsy following the finding of human remains in Wasilla on Sept. 4.
Investigators said that before she disappeared, Banks was last known to be alive in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Anchorage police initially handled the case before state troopers took over.
Based on the information collected in the investigation, state troopers believe Banks was murdered.
The case is being investigated by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation.
