(NewsNation) — The reward for information regarding Asha Degree’s disappearance has been increased to $75,000, more than 25 years after the girl was last seen in North Carolina.

Degree was just 9 years old when she went missing in February 2000. The last time she was reportedly seen was early in the morning on Valentine’s Day, as she was pulled into a green car.

Over a year later, Degree’s bookbag was found buried on the side of the road in neighboring Burke County. The place where the bookbag was found was about 30 miles up Highway 18 from where she was last seen.

The case has been investigated multiple times since Degree disappeared, and in September 2024, investigators served several search warrants for properties and items belonging to Roy Lee Dedmon’s family. Investigators said DNA found on Degree’s belongings has been linked to one of the Dedmon daughters, who were teenagers when Degree disappeared, and a man named Roy Underhill, who lived at several properties owned by the family. Underhill is now deceased.

Roy and Connie Dedmon and their three daughters have all been named as suspects in the case.

In February, new warrants were released, which revealed new information, including an allegation that one of the current suspects admitted to murdering her.

Court documents released by police last year suggest Degree was killed and her body concealed.
