Cortisol is known as the “stress hormone” and is secreted by the adrenal glands in the kidneys. It helps regulate blood sugar and inflammation, and if overproduced by the body, is thought to lead to irritability, severe fatigue and weight gain, especially in the face or abdomen.

It could include cutting out caffeine, having a diet focused on more whole foods, avoiding high-intensity workouts and taking supplements that encourage relaxation.
Other recommendations include getting sunlight in the morning and eating more high-fat and protein meals.
A recipe for a “cortisol cocktail” has also been trending on social media recently, which has promised to relax the body and even help with weight loss. It is made up of coconut water, orange juice, pink salt, cream of tartar, magnesium and ginger.
Health experts say you shouldn’t put too much negative focus on cortisol, as just like any other hormone, cortisol is a messenger and its levels provide information about your body’s processes. Experts say taking time to relax is best for people who are concerned about high cortisol.
