(NewsNation) — A pill form of the Wegovy weight loss pill is now available by prescription in the U.S.

Novo Nordisk’s daily oral pill, which starts at 1.5 milligrams, will be available for $149 a month for self-paying patients, while a 4 milligram dose will be available for the same price until April 15 of this year, then will rise to $199 a month, according to the company’s website.

The Wegovy pill is expected to be a $25 or less copay per month if it’s covered by a person’s insurance.

Ed Cinca, Novo Nordisk’s senior vice president of marketing and patient solutions, said in a statement that the pill represents a “significant innovation,” adding it’s the “first and only” GLP-1 pill for weight loss on the market.

In December, the FDA approved Wegovy’s pill. Its competitor, Eli Lilly, has a pill that is still being reviewed.
