PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A former prisoner is now painting for a purpose.

Vic Gilmore is helping others in Hampton Roads find healing in art.

Gilmore was incarcerated for years. Art therapy is what led to his recovery.

He thought teaching art painting would help children stay on the right path, but realized that other grown men leaving prison find painting pictures a helpful therapy, as it’s a positive way for them to express their emotions.

WAVY News 10 Chief Photojournalist Jeff Myers shares Gilmore’s story.
