Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Police Department said it returned a husky that was lost for seven years to his owner on Thursday.

An officer spotted the dog, Luca, wandering alone before he jumped in the patrol car in search for safety, TPD said.

TPD said the officer took Luca to Animal Doctors of South Tampa, and a microchip scan revealed the identity of Luca’s owner.

According to a video posted by TPD, Luca’s owner tirelessly searched for him for seven years, keeping his microchip active in the case of a miraculous reappearance.

“Today, that hope paid off and they were joyfully reunited,” TPD said.
