(NewsNation) — While co-parenting can be tough, it can be a different kind of complicated when you’re doing so for a dog.

Actors Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox sat down with NewsNation’s Keleigh Beeson to discuss their new movie “Merv,” in which the two play a couple who have broken up but are “forced” to co-parent their depressed dog, Merv.

Cox, who plays the dark and brooding titular superhero in “Daredevil: Born Again,” said playing Russ was “really fun and very different.”

“You know, it was shocking to me at the end of each day that I wasn’t getting home and feeling kind of angry all the time, so that was nice,” Cox told NewsNation.

The actors both praised their canine co-star Gus, who plays Merv, and who joined them for the interview.

“He’s a good boy. He’s a very good boy,” Deschanel said.

“Look at how brilliant he is in this interview,” Cox said. “He’s the most professional actor we’ve ever worked with.”
