(NewsNation) — Actress Yvette Nicole Brown is seemingly taking aim at CNN’s documentary on Chevy Chase ahead of its premiere.
Brown, who costarred with Chase on NBC’s “Community,” posted a statement on Instagram, alluding to the documentary, “I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not,” even though she didn’t mention it by name.
“These are things I’ve never spoken of publicly and perhaps never will,” Brown wrote. “Anyone currently speaking FOR or ABOUT me with perceived authority is speaking without EVER speaking to me about the things they claim to know about. They actually don’t really know me — at all.”
She said that people who aren’t aware of her past or present working relationships have no credibility when doing so, adding, “I hate that this all had to be said. In East Cleveland speak: Keep my name out of your mouth.”
Chevy Chase allegedly says N-word on ‘Community’ set
The “National Lampoon’s European Vacation” actor was fired from the NBC sitcom in the middle of its fourth season in 2012 after he clashed with “Community” creator Dan Harmon and allegedly uttered a racial epithet on set, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In a scene involving Chase’s character, Pierce Hawthorne, performing with a hand puppet who is in blackface, an argument between Chase and Brown, who played Shirley Bennett, ensued, where Chase used the N-word, forcing Brown to leave the set.
“He goes, ‘You know, me and Richard Pryor, I used to call Richard Pryor the N-word, and he used to call me The Honky, and we loved each other,’” Director Jay Chandrasekhar, who was there for the alleged incident, said in the documentary.
“And I’m like, ‘I know, man, I love that bit.’ I said, ‘You know, can we just have a little apology?’ He goes, ‘For what?’” he said.
Chandrasekhar said, “There was a history” about race between Brown and Chase.
The “Saturday Night Live” alum was fired from “Community” on the same day the alleged incident occurred, and he doesn’t discuss it in the documentary, THR reports.
“I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not” premieres on Jan. 1.
