(NewsNation) — Jillian Lauren, true crime author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after being caught up in a search for hit-and-run suspects in Los Angeles.
Lauren was also shot and injured by police during the encounter.
The incident began with a foot chase in LA as police were seeking three suspects who allegedly fled the scene of a car crash.
The suspects ended up on the street in LA’s Eagle Rock neighborhood, where Lauren and Shriner live. Lauren reportedly came out of the house with a weapon, which she allegedly refused to drop after being asked “numerous” times by police.
According to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department, Lauren pointed the weapon at officers who shot her in the shoulder.
Authorities said Lauren ran back into her house before returning outside with another woman who was reportedly a babysitter. Both were taken into custody, and Lauren’s injuries were treated at a local hospital.
Police recovered a 9 mm handgun from the home and later charged Lauren with attempted murder.
California Highway Patrol arrested a suspect in the hit-and-run shortly after the incident. The suspect was found wearing nothing but boxer shorts in the backyard of a home near the Shriner residence. Two other suspects have not been found.
Lauren, 51, is the author of a best-selling memoir about her experiences being part of a harem of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei.
She also published a book on serial killer Samuel Little, who confessed to committing 93 murders between 1970 and 2005.
Lauren married Shriner in 2005 before the bassist joined Weezer. The band was confirmed as a last-minute addition to the Coachella lineup earlier in the week. It’s not clear whether the shooting or arrest will affect those plans.
