‘The Wire’ star James Ransone dies at 46

(NEXSTAR) – James Ransone, best known for his role in the HBO series “The Wire,” died Friday in an apparent suicide, according to a report by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. He was 46.

Ransone appeared in his first television role in 2002, according to IMDb, and appeared in his role in the second season of the critically acclaimed show “The Wire” just a year later, playing troubled dockworker Ziggy Sobotka.

He went on to make appearances on shows such as “Law & Order,” “Burn Notice” and “Hawaii Five-0,” and was also featured in the film “It: Chapter Two” as Eddie Kaspbrak.

Other credits for Ransone include “Sinister,” “The Black Phone,” and “Generation Kill.”

In 2016, Ransone opened up about his struggles with addiction in a discussion with Interview Magazine.

He was born in Baltimore in 1979 and attended The School of the Visual Arts in New York City.

He is survived by his wife, Jamie McPhee, and their two children.
