(NewsNation) — Taylor Swift released her highly anticipated 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” on Friday, and fans are already speculating that one of the songs is about Blake Lively.
Rumors are swirling that her song “CANCELLED!” is about her rumored strained friendship with Lively stemming from her legal case against Justin Baldoni.
Is Taylor Swift defending Blake Lively?
If the song is about the “A Simple Favor” star, then Swift is coming to her defense amid public criticisms toward Lively.
“Good thing I like my friends cancelled / I liked them cloaked Gucci and in scandal,” Swift sings on the track.
The Gucci line could refer to Lively’s partnership with the brand in 2012, where she became the face of its fragrance Gucci Premiere, according to the New York Post.
Other lyrics to the song include, “I salute you if you’re much too much to handle / Now you know exactly who your friends are / We’re the ones with matching scars.”
“Did you girl boss too close to the sun? / Did they catch you having far too much fun?” Swift continues. “Come with me when they see I still run / Something wicked this way comes.”
Blake Lively concerned she’d be on ‘Showgirl’
According to NewsNation’s Paula Froelich, Lively was worried that the newly engaged songstress’s song “Ruin the Friendship” would be about their relationship.
Swift reportedly broke off relations with Lively after the pop star’s name was repeatedly used by the actress Baldoni during the filming of “It Ends With Us,” which was referenced in Baldoni’s now-thrown-out countersuit against the “Gossip Girl” star.
”Taylor is annoyed she was brought into this,” a source told Froelich in January. “She was supporting her friend and went to her house to hang out, and now that (hangout) is part of (Baldoni’s) lawsuit. It’s a lot.”
