(NewsNation) — The son of “Snow White” producer Marc Platt is blaming star Rachel Zegler for the underperformance of Disney’s remake of the 1937 classic at the box office.
Jonah Platt, who hosts the podcast “Being Jewish,” criticized Zegler for “dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting a movie.”
Rachel Zegler asked to remove ‘Free Palestine’ comment
In August 2024, Marc Platt traveled to New York City to ask Zegler to remove a “Free Palestine” comment she made on X while thanking fans for watching the film’s trailer, Variety reported.
After Zegler posted a message aimed at Trump supporters, Marc Platt met with her again, prompting Disney to hire a social media manager to oversee Zegler’s online presence. A commenter on social media criticized Marc Platt’s intervention, calling it “creepy” and “uncalled for.”
‘Snow White’ producer’s son on Instagram: ‘Her actions clearly hurt’
In a since-deleted post, Jonah Platt responded to an Instagram comment that reported Marc Platt’s visit to “reprimand” Zegler, according to Variety. Jonah said Marc Platt’s attempt to get Zegler to delete her post was made at Disney’s request.
“Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for,” Jonah Platt wrote, per Variety. “This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office.”
He added: “Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions. Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful. Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.”
Jonah Platt, who has been outspoken against antisemitism, has previously condemned Kanye West, particularly after the rapper used swastikas in his public displays, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Disney’s ‘Snow White’ film receives low ratings
Studio estimates have the remake, released on March 21, opening with $43 million in ticket sales. It has extremely low ratings, initially receiving a 2.2/10 on IMDb and 43% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Beyond its unsuccessful revenue, NewsNation entertainment expert Paula Froelich reported there’s immense tension between the movie’s two co-stars, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, who is Israeli.
Rachel Zegler clear on political beliefs
Zegler is one of the most polarizing celebrities in Hollywood. She has been vocal about her political beliefs and has condemned the original “Snow White.”
Following President Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, she posted on Instagram: “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.”
NewsNation has learned Zegler is “too dangerous to touch,” according to a Hollywood insider, and has zero projects in the works besides heading up the West End production of “Evita” at the Palladium in London.
