(NewsNation) — Actress Rebecca Gayheart is sharing insights about her relationship with Eric Dane, who’s currently battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

“I am definitely trying to show (my daughters) that we show up for people no matter what. And he is our family, he is your father,” she said on “Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson & Olivia Allen.”

The former “Grey’s Anatomy” actor and Gayheart share daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13.

The couple married in 2004 and split up in 2018, when Gayheart filed for divorce. However, in March of this year, she moved to dismiss the divorce filing, according to People magazine.

“We show up and we try to do it with some dignity and some grace and just get through it, and that we will get through it the best we can,” Gayheart said. “I mean, it’s super complicated for me.”

Despite withdrawing her petition, she and Dane are still not together, and they’ve been separated for eight years; however, her kids live with her full-time.

Eric Dane calls Rebecca Gayheart his ‘biggest champion’

In April 2025, Dane revealed he was diagnosed with the nervous system disease ALS.

He told Diane Sawyer in June that he only had “one functioning arm” and may lose function in the other arm, something he called “sobering.”

He spoke highly of Gayheart during the interview, saying, “We have managed to become better friends and better parents. She is probably my biggest champion and my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her.”

He was seen in a wheelchair in September at a Washington, D.C., airport, where he told his fans to “keep the faith.”

Dane was in D.C. with the nonprofit I AM ALS to advocate for research and assistance for those suffering from the disease.
