(NewsNation) — Former reality TV star Spencer Pratt announced his run for Los Angeles mayor, a year after losing his home in the Palisades Fire.

Pratt made the announcement at a rally on Wednesday, California gubernatorial candidate Lewis Herms wrote on X, posting a video of the former “The Hills” stars speaking to a crowd in the Palisades town center.

“Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles,” Pratt said from the stage at the “They Let Us Burn” rally. And I’m done waiting for someone to take real action. That’s why I am running for mayor.”

Pratt added, “Gavin Newsom and the state of California created an insurance market so hostile that every major carrier stopped writing policies and dropped our families and neighbors just before the sparks flew here in the Palisades,” Pratt said.

Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, sued the city of Los Angeles in January 2025, weeks after the wildfire tore through their Southern California home.

The suit, which Montag and Pratt joined with 20 other property owners, blamed L.A. and its municipal water department for the water issues that impeded firefighting efforts, leading to damage to their properties, according to KREM.
