(NewsNation) — “Snow White” starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot is gaining popularity on Disney+, months after the film bombed at the box office amid controversy.

The film premiered on Disney’s streaming service on June 11, with FlixPatrol and Disney+ now putting the movie as the streaming service’s No. 1 pick in the U.S. As of June 16, the film is ranked No. 11 on IMDb, No. 17 on Letterboxd and No. 23 on Trakt.

In theaters, “Snow White” only brought in $42.2 million on opening, which is low for a film that reportedly had a production budget of $269 million. According to Collider, the film dropped 66% in its second weekend.

When “Snow White” left theaters on June 5, it had only made $205.5 million across the world. This means the studio lost over $115 million. The film has a 39% on Rotten Tomatoes and only a 1.9 out of 10 on IMDb with over 365,000 ratings.

Rachel Zegler criticized original ‘Snow White’ before film was released

Zegler made many fans upset in 2022 when she told “Extra” that the animated version of Snow White was “extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman’s fit for in the world… There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. So we didn’t do that this time…”

She also offended Disney fans and conservatives by saying things like Snow White is “really not about the love story at all.” She also called out people who were upset with her, saying they were “losers obsessed with maintaining the bloodline purity of cartoon princesses.”

Zegler also used her platform to share her political beliefs, specifically after President Donald Trump was reelected. She said on Instagram, “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.” She did apologize for the post a few days later.

Rachel Zegler ‘unhireable’ after Snow White release: Source

Zegler has been blamed for the poor reviews of Snow White, with one source telling NewsNation’s Paula Froelich that she is “unhireable right now. She should start applying to college.”

That same source also said that the star is “too dangerous to touch… She doesn’t know when to shut up. After this and what happened to ‘Emilia Perez,’ studios are going to be a lot more careful hiring lead actresses.”

Another source said in March that Gal Gadot, Zegler’s costar in the film, had been upset with the star following her public support of Gaza.

Zegler recently signed on to play the title role of “Evita” at London’s Palladium. As of mid-June, the London Theatre Direct still had available tickets, with the show running until September 6, 2025.

Rachel Zegler criticized by ‘Snow White’ producer’s son

Producer Marc Platt’s son also blamed Zegler for the film underperforming. Jonah Platt, the host of the “Being Jewish” podcast, said she shouldn’t have dragged “her personal politics into the middle of promoting a movie.”

In the now-deleted post, Platt responded to a comment that said his father “reprimanded” Zegler. He said that his father’s attempt at getting Zegler to delete her Instagram post was made at the request of Disney.

“Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for,” Jonah Platt wrote, per Variety.

“This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office,” he continued. “Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions… She hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful.”
