(NEXSTAR) – Rachael Carpani, an actress who starred in the Lifetime series “Against the Wall” and made appearances in “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “The Glades,” has died at the age of 45, her family announced on social media.

“It is with great sadness that Tony and Gael Carpani announce that their beautiful daughter, beloved Australian actress Rachael Carpani, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away after a long battle with a chronic illness, in the early hours of Sunday 7th December,” reads a message posted to Instagram by a woman identified as Carpani’s sister, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

A funeral is planned for Dec. 19, Carpani’s family announced. Their statement did not disclose a cause of death. The Australian Broadcasting Company reported that Carpani had previously been diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis, two uterine conditions that can cause discomfort or even intense pain. She was also hospitalized in 2021 with “acute abdominal pain,” she revealed on Instagram at the time.

“The family requests privacy at this very difficult time and will be making no further statements,” the message concluded.

Carpani, who also appeared in the films “Triangle” with Liam Hemsworth and “The Way Back” starring Ben Affleck, was perhaps better known for TV roles in her native Australia, where she starred on the drama series “McCleod’s Daughters.” She also re-joined the cast of the Australian soap opera “Home and Away” in 2024, after making two appearances on the long-running series back in 2001.

Bridie Carter, one of Carpani’s co-stars on “McLeod’s Daughters,” commented on Carpani’s death in a “difficult post” on Monday.

“We are better people for having the privilege of sharing time with you,” Carter said.

“May your blessed spirit, so vivid, so full of life, laughter, joy, generosity, unique talent, energy, fervour, intelligence, resilience, courage and great humour, and a gentle humility, may you rest in peace.”
