(NewsNation) — Trial attorney Deanna Paul believes the defense in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex crimes trial will continue to argue that the music mogul’s actions were not illegal.
“The point of their argument is that, you know, these were two consenting adults, and even though there’s some behavior that not everyone deals with on a daily basis, whether it’s group sex or drug use or multiple partners … those are things that, while they might make us uncomfortable … discomfort isn’t criminality,” Paul told “NewsNation Now.”
“And the defense is going to keep hammering home this idea that immorality is not the same as illegality,” she added.
Combs ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura took to the stand where she testified about the infamous “Freak Offs” and her relationship with Combs.
Dominic Patton, executive editor at Deadline, was inside the courtroom Tuesday and described it as a “subdued affair.”
“The prosecution is taking this in a very step-by-step manner. It’s only in the later part of the day that we really saw them kind of unveiling what is clearly their ability to get into the sex trafficking claims, which are really the heart of this case,” he told “NewsNation Now.”
Paul reiterated that the burden of proof resides in proving Combs is guilty of sex trafficking, rather than allegations of domestic violence or drug-related offenses.
