MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A nine-year-old girl who racked up millions of views with her karaoke rendition of Project Pat’s “Chickenhead” will perform on stage with the Memphis rapper on 901 Day, Sept. 1.
Last month, Alaynna Doty brought down the house and blew up the internet when she performed the rap song at Crazy Cactus in Olive Branch. A video her mom posted to TikTok has been viewed 5.5 million times.
The Olive Branch girl also got the attention of Project Pat and organizers of 901 Day. Alaynna was asked to perform with the headliner on the main stage along Beale Street Monday night.
“I was like, is this really happening?” said Alaynna. “I will be singing on stage, and then he’ll come on stage and sing with me.”
Alaynna has also been invited to attend a meet-and-greet with Project Pat on Saturday at Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken in Nashville. Her mother posted a video of her daughter opening a package, which included the official invites and some T-shirts from Gus’s and Project Pat.
Alaynna’s mother, Lauren Durham, said her daughter is a little bit nervous about singing in front of a large crowd in Memphis, but said it’s a dream come true for the fourth-grader.
Alaynna said she has wanted to be a singer since she was 3 years old.
“I used to perform in the garage with my dad, and we used to just be singing in there,” said Alaynna. “I want to be an artist or singer or maybe an actress.”
The Lewisburg student is already getting a taste of fame. Her video was reposted by Project Pat and ended up on several social media sites, and she’s been recognized in public.
“Fun. Like, everywhere we’ve been going, everyone’s been asking for a picture,” Alaynna said. “They ask Mom if it’s really me.”
Alaynna said she can’t wait to meet Pat.
Hundreds are expected to attend 901 Day on September 1. The Memphis pride event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Beale Street.
