Thousands of Black Sabbath and Osbourne fans gathered along Birmingham’s Broad Street, a well-known entertainment area.

Black Sabbath was formed in the city in 1968. Fans paid tribute to the music legend with chants of “Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy, oi, oi, oi,” as the hearse arrived.

The rock band’s story began when the four original members were looking to escape a life of factory work.

Since his death was announced, fans have made pilgrimages to sites around Birmingham, which has embraced its reputation as the birthplace of heavy metal. Among his peers, Osbourne was metal’s godfather.
