(NewsNation) — MrBeast has defended his decision to trap a man inside a burning building for him to win up to half a million dollars.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, said in an X post that he takes “safety seriously” after his latest stunt video titled “Would You Risk Dying For $500,000?”

In the video, MrBeast puts a stuntman through seven death traps so he can win the money.

The video shows the stuntman, whose name is Eric, tied to a chair inside a burning building with $500,000 in bags placed behind him. Eric is then seen escaping from the chair while grabbing bags of money.

He ended up raking in $250,000 from the challenge, but not before part of his body caught on fire and was ultimately taken out by a fire extinguisher.

In a response to a post about the challenge, he wrote, “This blew up, if you’re curious obviously we had ventilation for the smoke and a kill switch to cut off the fires.”

Adding, “We had professionals test this extensively, and the guy in the video, as stated, is a professional stuntman. I take safety more serious than you could ever imagine.”

MrBeast: We had a pyro team on hand

The video has over 46 million views as of the time of this writing.

Some of the other traps include getting shot out of a cannon into some fire and “surviving” massive explosions.

Comments called out the content creator for the video, calling it “humiliating” and dystopian in nature, according to the BBC.

In a pinned comment on the video, MrBeast explains, “We also had a pyro team (specialists in fire effects) controlling the fires and multiple fire suppression methods on every challenge to ensure we could essentially turn off the fire if there was ever an issue.”

MrBeast has the most subscribed channel on YouTube

He has his own YouTube channel, merchandise, food brands and, according to Benzinga, a future Amazon streaming deal. All of this has put the YouTuber’s net worth at $1 billion, according to Celebrity Net Worth, with an estimated monthly salary of $50 million.
