(NewsNation) — A cause of death for food influencer Michael Duarte, 38, has officially been revealed.
Duarte, known on social media as FoodWithBearHands, died Nov. 8. He was shot and killed by police after he made threats at a deputy, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office said at the time.
He died from a gunshot wound, and his death has been ruled a homicide, a Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office spokesperson told People magazine.
The full autopsy results are still pending, the spokesperson said.
Authorities: Michael Duarte was ‘acting erratically’
Law enforcement officials said they responded to a 911 call on Nov. 8 in Castroville, Texas, involving a “male subject with a knife acting erratically.”
“After multiple verbal commands were given for Duarte to get on the ground by the deputy, Duarte charged toward the deputy while yelling, ‘I’m going to kill you,’” according to the sheriff’s office.
After allegedly not complying, a deputy fired two rounds at Duarte, striking him.
Michael Duarte displayed cooking skills on the internet
Known for his grilling videos under the social media handle “FoodWithBearHands,” Duarte had over 2 million followers on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube, according to People magazine.
A GoFundMe to help support Duarte’s family was set up last month, describing his death as a “horrible incident.”
“The world may know him as ‘FoodwithBearHands,’ but to us, he was a loving husband, father, brother, and a great friend to many,” the GoFundMe page reads.
