(NewsNation) — Meghan and Prince Harry are extending their partnership with Netflix, following reports that the streaming giant wouldn’t renew their contract.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced Monday that they struck a new multiyear deal with Netflix through their Archewell Productions banner, in which the streaming service will have a first-look deal for film and television projects, according to People magazine.

“We’re proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand,” Meghan said in a statement to People. “My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.”

Outlets previously reported this year that Netflix decided not to renew the couple’s contract when it expires in September.

The rumored cancellation came after an insider told People that the decision reflected a shift in the company’s larger business strategy.

“With Love, Meghan” holiday special announced

Meghan also announced that not only will the second season of her show “With Love, Meghan” will premiere later this month, but that a holiday special, With Love, “Meghan: Holiday Celebration” will air later this year.

“This December, join Meghan in Montecito for a magical holiday celebration. Together, friends and family deck the halls, create holiday feasts, craft heartfelt gifts, and share lots of laughs – with simple how-tos to follow at home. It’s a holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy,” according to a Netflix press release.

Harry and Meghan’s new deal is reportedly less restrctive, as the first look deal gives Netflix the opportunity to move forward with an Archewell Production project, but if it declines they could shop the project elsewhere, signaling less investment from the company, while giving the Sussexes more options, according to the New York Times.
