(NewsNation) — Kristin Davis says she and the cast were shocked “And Just Like That” was canceled after three seasons.

Davis was on “The Drew Barrymore” show on Wednesday and said that “definitely didn’t know” the “Sex and the City” spinoff would be axed.

Barrymore asked if showrunner Michael Patrick King had given the cast notice about the show’s end.

“Definitely true. Didn’t know,” Davis said, according to Elle.

“Our commitment that we had made was a three-year commitment to each other, so we knew that part, but I just assumed that we were going to keep going,” she added.

Michael Patrick King, Sarah Jessica Parker: We decided to end ‘AJLT’

Davis’s comments contradict the reason King and Sarah Jessica Parker gave when announcing the show’s end in August.

“And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the ‘Sex and the City’ universe is coming to an end. While I was writing the last episode of ‘And Just Like That’… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop,” he said on Instagram at the time.

King added, “Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.”

When King announced the show’s ending, Davis posted on Instagram that she was “profoundly sad” that it was ending, ultimately putting a finale on her time as Charlotte York, whom she also played on “Sex and the City.”

“I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever,” she said at the time.

‘And Just Like That’s’ low viewership

NewsNation’s Paula Froelich reported that the show was canceled because of low ratings.

The first season of the “Sex and the City” spin-off averaged 1.1 million viewers, with the following seasons coming in with fewer viewers. Season 2 is averaging 463,000 viewers, and Season 3 is averaging 429,000.

“It’s a horrifically expensive show to make and it wasn’t justified,” an insider told Froelich. “But HBO signed a multiyear contract with (executive producer) Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker so… there you go.”
