(NewsNation) —The royal family was given a copy of the book by the woman who accused former Prince Andrew of sexual assault while she was still alive and chose to ignore it, author Andrew Lownie exclusively told NewsNation’s Paula Froelich.

Both King Charles and Prince William were briefed on the contents of Virginia Giuffre’s book months before her death in April, Lownie says.

“The were briefed on the book, both Charles and William, so they knew what was in it,” Lownie says. “Charles did nothing, and they’ve done nothing. And even a few weeks ago, when Andrew was allowed to make his statement saying, I deny everything, and I’m an honorable man, at that stage, they could have done something.”

Virginia Giuffre’s book talks surviving abuse

Giuffre, who previously alleged she was trafficked to Prince Andrew by Jeffrey Epstein at 17, feared she would “die a sex slave” at Epstein’s hand.

Her posthumous memoir, “Nobody’s Girl” was released in October and serves as a discussion of surviving abuse, fighting for justice and suffering at the hands of Epstein and Andrew.

Giuffre describe being a plaything of Epstein and his now-imprisoned right-hand woman, Ghislaine Maxwell.

She wrote that she was forced to have sex with Andrew three times, the first when she was just 17.

She also wrote that she lost a baby during her time being trafficked by Epstein, but made no claims that Andrew or Epstein fathered the child.

Andrew Lownie: This won’t bring down the monarchy

Lownie tells Froelich that, despite the revelation that the palace knew about the book, it won’t be the end of the royal family.

“I don’t think it’s going to end the monarchy. I think that it still has its supporters,” he said. “Kate and William are very popular. But I do think it’s at its lowest support levels for many, many years.”
