(NewsNation) — Now that the dust has settled — and all the charges against him have been dropped — slowly but surely, Kevin Spacey is going back to work.
The “Usual Suspects” actor saw his career disappear after nine charges of sexual assault — brought by four men and spanning a time span of 20 years — were filed against him in England. Even after the actor was acquitted in 2023, the actor still had a hard time getting work and faced serious financial challenges.
But it looks like he is on the road to a comeback — and is desperately trying to uncancel himself.
Kevin Spacey in two movies set to release this year
The Oscar-winning actor attended the “Othello” premiere on Broadway last week, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, and told friends he was relieved to be working again.
And he does have two movies under his belt that are set to be released this year: “Gore,” the movie in which he portrays American writer and intellectual Gore Vidal, is completed and set to be released later this year. Another movie, “1780,” which he stars in with DJ Qualls, in is post-production.
A friend of his told me, “Listen, he knows he has a lot to be held accountable for — and he is trying to take responsibility for his past and be a better human going forward. But he was acquitted, every case against him was dropped, and he just wants to be able to work again.”
Unfortunately, the stress has taken its toll on Spacey.
Many attendees at the “Othello” premiere didn’t recognize the once standout actor.

”He has gained a lot of weight — a lot,” one onlooker said. “He’s very out of shape. Depression and stress are a b—h.”
Kevin Spacey in 2024 interview: ‘I can’t pay the bills that I owe’
The actor’s finances have also taken a hit. After hiring high-priced lawyers to defend him, Spacey told Piers Morgan last year that he was dodging bankruptcy, essentially broke, and had his Baltimore home foreclosed on.
In the interview, Spacey said he was essentially broke and homeless.
“This week, where I have been living in Baltimore is being foreclosed on. My house has been sold off, so I have to go back to Baltimore and put all my things in storage,” a teary Spacey told Morgan, adding, “I’m not quite sure where I’m going to live now.”
Spacey then admitted, “I can’t pay the bills that I owe,” but said that he has been able to dodge filing for bankruptcy “as of today.” However, when Morgan asked how much money Spacey has, he told him, “None.”
A lawyer for Spacey didn’t return emails.
