(NewsNation) — A voice note obtained by NewsNation features actor-director Justin Baldoni apologizing to Blake Lively during the production of “It Ends with Us” and making comments that could be construed as off-color.
“Hey, Blake, it’s 2 a.m. Hopefully this does not wake you up,” Baldoni says in the audio recording. “I want to start with an apology. I f—– up. That is a fail on my part.”
The April 2023 recording was generated as the two co-stars disagreed over potential script rewrites. Lively had just sent Baldoni a text message expressing her insecurities and explaining why she would lean on her celebrity husband, Ryan Reynolds, and friend Taylor Swift to help press her case, NewsNation legal contributor Jesse Weber said.
Weber joined “CUOMO” on Tuesday night to help unpack the potential legal significance of the audio. Lively and Baldoni have sued each other, each accusing the other of orchestrating career-damaging smear campaigns. Lively also says Baldoni sexually harassed her.
“Which side does it help more?” Weber said, referring to the audio aired Tuesday. “Not entirely clear.”
At one point in the voice note, Baldoni sounds a conciliatory note, saying, “I’m excited to be in your sphere and your presence, and for us to share creative juices together. Although that sounds terrible.”
He apologizes for sending the message at that hour, noting Lively, a mother, might be breast-feeding one of her children.
“It Ends with Us” was a commercial hit in theaters, grossing about $150 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo.
