(NewsNation) — When billionaire and convicted sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein was found unresponsive in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York on Aug. 10, 2019, and pronounced dead soon after, it set off a million conspiracy theories — and according to Epstein’s brother Mark, those theories may just be right.
While the official cause of death was listed as “suicide by hanging,” there were many odd “coincidences” that were too blatant to ignore, including:
- Epstein had been placed in a special housing unit but had been removed from suicide watch days earlier despite a prior incident in his cell.
- On the night of his death, the required 30-minute checks were not performed, and the two guards assigned to monitor his unit fell asleep and falsified records.
- Two surveillance cameras near his cell were claimed to be malfunctioning that night.
While the DOJ and FBI have reaffirmed the suicide determination and found no credible evidence of foul play, Epstein’s lawyers and family hired independent pathologist Dr. Michael Baden, who argued some physical findings could be more consistent with homicidal strangulation.
Mark Epstein: ‘Jeffrey was murdered’
“Jeffrey was murdered, and more autopsy facts will be coming out in February that prove it,” Mark told me, citing a mysterious report he claims will be released within weeks.
Mark, who identified his brother’s body and later hired Dr. Baden — a well-known forensic pathologist (and former New York City chief medical examiner) to observe the autopsy, claims the injuries he witnessed on his body “didn’t correspond to the way his body was found hanging.”
He also said, “The fire alarm — which also controls doors and videos wasn’t operable (the day Epstein died). And there were 73 people on the floor before Jeff’s death and only 72 after — who is the missing prisoner?”
Mark added that because the only surviving videotape only showed a sliver of a door — not Epstein’s actual cell — “you have no idea who could have gone in or out of there. And why ignore the fact that there was somebody else on that floor?”
Mark Epstein: Ghislaine Maxwell is lying
Mark also says Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence after being convicted in December 2021 on multiple sex trafficking and related charges for her role in recruiting and facilitating the sexual abuse of underage girls with Jeffrey Epstein, is lying when she said Epstein likely killed himself.
”Ghislaine is someone in a position.. well, I wouldn’t trust anything she says,” Mark told me. “What is she basing this on? She never saw the body or talked to Jeff before he died.”
“There are only three ways to die in prison,” Mark said, “Suicide, natural causes or murder. And Jeff was murdered. I want to know who killed him and on whose behalf?”
After Epstein was found dead, former Attorney General Bill Barr issued a statement saying he was “appalled” by the news of Epstein’s apparent suicide in custody and that the circumstances “raise serious questions that must be answered.”
Mark Epstein: ‘Who are they trying to protect?’
In later commentary and testimony — including before Congress — Barr reiterated that investigations had found no evidence to contradict the official determination that Epstein’s death was a suicide, while acknowledging mistakes and procedural failures at the jail.
An assertion Mark vehemently denies six years later.
“Why the cover-up?” Mark asked. “Why the charade? Who are they trying to protect?”
