(NewsNation) — Jeff Bezos’ mother died in Miami following a long fight with dementia, he revealed. She was 78.

The Amazon founder wrote on Instagram on Thursday that his mom, Jacklyn “Jackie” Gise Bezos, had passed away surrounded by her loved ones. 

“After a long fight with Lewy Body Dementia, she passed away today, surrounded by so many of us who loved her — her kids, grandkids, and my dad,” he wrote on Instagram.  

He added, “I know she felt our love in those final moments. We were all so lucky to be in her life. I hold her safe in my heart forever.”  

The Blue Origin founder shared that his mother had him when she was 17 years old. When he was 4, she married Miguel Bezos, who ultimately adopted him, according to Page Six.   

“For the rest of her life, that list of people to love never stopped growing. She always gave so much more than she ever asked for,” he wrote. 

Lewy body dementia  

According to the Mayo Clinic, Lewy body dementia is the second most common form of dementia behind Alzheimer’s disease, and those with the disease may suffer from visual hallucinations and develop symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease.
