(NewsNation) — Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sánchez got married on Friday in Venice, Italy, and their celebrity guests spent all week arriving.

The couple got engaged in May 2023, and since then, people have speculated online about their wedding date and location, guests and more. Venetians protested all the way up to the wedding because they felt as though it was making overtourism worse.

With the wedding festivities ending this weekend, the protests will most likely settle down.

Bezos and Sánchez have been pictured several times this week ahead of their wedding day. On Friday, Sánchez was seen leaving the Aman Hotel, even blowing a kiss to the camera.

On Thursday, the couple was also seen leaving that same hotel on a boat to go to dinner with their wedding guests.

The Kardashian family in Venice

Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kris Jenner and other family members have been spotted in Venice this week for the Amazon founder’s wedding.

Rob Kardashian and Caitlyn Jenner haven’t been seen in the city.

Orlando Bloom in Venice after split from Katy Perry

Orlando Bloom was also seen in Venice for the Amazon founder’s wedding. It was recently announced that Bloom and singer Katy Perry have ended their six-year engagement.

A few weeks before, NewsNation’s Paula Froelich reported that, despite rumors, Bloom and Perry were supposed to reunite at Bezos’ wedding.

However, Perry has not been seen in Venice as of Sunday.

Other celebrities spotted at Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sánchez’s wedding

Many other celebrities also showed up in Venice for Bezos and Sánchez’s wedding, including Sydney Sweeney, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King and more.

Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sánchez wedding protests

Leading up to the couple’s wedding, Venetians took to the streets to protest it. “No Space For Bezos” believes that this overtourism is negatively affecting the city’s infrastructure, and that celebrities are causing a significant carbon footprint by flying in on private jets.

One of the lead organizers and activists for the group, Oliviero Cassarà, said that he doesn’t have an issue with Americans having their weddings in Venice. However, “Bezos supported Trump economically and politically and is consequently co-responsible for this drift against us, Italian and European citizens.”

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro hasn’t agreed with the protests, instead welcoming Bezos to the city.

“I don’t know if I have time or if [Bezos] will, to meet and shake hands, but it’s an honor that they chose Venice. Venice once again reveals itself to be a global stage,” he reportedly said. Protestors were still seen on June 28 with signs that read, “Kisses yes, Bezos no.”
