(NewsNation) — Jamie Lee Curtis is mourning the death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, despite having different political views.
Curtis was on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast, where she spoke about Kirk, mistakenly calling him Charlie Crist.
“I’m going to bring something up with you just because it’s front of mind. Charlie Crist was killed two days ago,” she said. Maron corrected Curtis, “Kirk, not Crist,” prompting her to explain, “Sorry, Kirk. I just call him Crist, I think, because of Christ, because of his deep belief.”

As she spoke about Kirk, who was fatally shot at a campus event on Sept. 10 at Utah Valley University, Curtis began to cry over his death, while emphasizing the difference in their political stances, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“I mean, I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say,” The “Freakier Friday” actress said. “But I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died that he felt connected to his faith.”
She added, “Even though I find what his ideas were abhorrent to me, I still believe he’s a father and a husband and a man of faith, and I hope whatever ‘connection to God’ means, that he felt it.”
Controversy over Charlie Kirk’s death
The death of Kirk, who was the founder of conservative organization Turning Point USA, brought an outpouring of nationwide support, but also intense criticism of his political stances. As a result, those who celebrated his passing have faced professional consequences.
Companies such as Delta Airlines and Office Depot have adjusted their social media policies in response to Kirk’s death, and local and state agencies have fired employees over social media comments.
Kirk’s accused killer, Tyler Robinson, was arrested after a 33-hour manhunt thanks to a tip from his family and messages discovered on Discord, according to authorities.
