(NewsNation) — Movie studio Legendary has obtained movie rights to a dark fantasy book that began as “Harry Potter” fan fiction.

Legendary bought the rights to “Alchemised,” an upcoming book from author SenLinYu, according to the Hollywood Reporter, in a reported deal worth more than $3 million.

“I’m honored by Legendary’s incredible enthusiasm for the project and can’t wait to see the world of Paladia come to life,” SenLinYu said in a statement to the outlet.

‘Alchemised’ and its ‘Harry Potter’ roots

SenLinYu is a popular fixture in the “Harry Potter” fan fiction world and has written multiple stories, including about the controversial and forbidden romance between Harry Potter’s best friend Hermione Granger and his childhood enemy and rival, Draco Malfoy.

One of the author’s dark fantasy fictions, “Manacled,” which was a mix of “Harry Potter and “The Handmaid’s Tale,” had more than 10 million views on the fan fiction hosting site Archive of Our Own and 100,000 five-star ratings on Goodreads, THR reported.

While “Alchemised” began rooted in the world of “Harry Potter,” it evolved into its own.

“In this riveting dark fantasy debut, a woman with missing memories fights to survive a war-torn world of necromancy and alchemy—and the man tasked with unearthing the deepest secrets of her past,” according to the book’s description on Amazon.

“Alchemised” is set for release Sept. 23, with an initial print of 750,000 copies.
