(NewsNation) — George Clooney and his family can officially call France their new home.
The actor, along with wife Amal Clooney and 8-year-old children Alexander and Ella, has been granted French citizenship, according to a decree posted in the Journal Officiel, France’s official government gazette.
The couple bought an estate in France in 2021, according to CBS News.
Clooney told Esquire in October his “farm in France” is the family’s primary residence, a move he says was motivated by his children.
“I was worried about raising our kids in LA, in the culture of Hollywood,” Clooney told the publication. “I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
Clooney praised the country’s privacy laws on France’s RTL Radio earlier this month.
“Here, they don’t take photos of kids. There aren’t any paparazzi hidden at the school gates. That’s No. 1 for us,” he told the station.
The couple also owns an estate in Italy’s Lake Como and a manor in England, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
