(NewsNation) — Gene Hackman’s final autopsy has reportedly been released, revealing new details about the late actor’s health.
Hackman, 95, was found dead in his home with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 65, in February. One of their dogs was also found dead. The two were found by maintenance workers who were near the couple’s Santa Fe, New Mexico home.
According to authorities, Arakawa’s last activity was around Feb. 11, while Hackman’s pacemaker last showed activity on Feb. 18.
Gene Hackman had ‘history of congestive heart failure’: Report
According to a final autopsy from the Office of the Medical Investigator in New Mexico, Hackman had a “history of congestive heart failure” and “severe chronic hypertensive changes, kidneys.” This autopsy report was obtained by Fox News Digital.
The actor was reportedly put on a “bi-ventricular pacemaker” in April 2019. Also noted in the autopsy was “neurodegenerative features consistent with Alzheimer’s Disease.”
The report also stated that, “Examination of the brain showed microscopic findings of advanced stage Alzheimer’s Disease.”
Gene Hackman tests negative for Hantavirus: Report
The report did show that Hackman had tested negative for Hantavirus, despite that being the cause of Arakawa’s death. “Testing for carbon monoxide was less than 5% saturation, in keeping with a normal range,” according to the medical examiner.
Hantavirus, a zoonotic disease, is transmitted from animals to people, not from person to person.
A toxicology report allegedly showed trace amounts of acetone in the actor’s system when he died. The report said that acetone is “also a product of diabetic- and fasting-induced ketoacidosis as well as a metabolite following isopropanol ingestion.”
Footage shows inside Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawa’s home
Footage released in April showed the inside of Hackman and Arakawa’s home when they were found. Arakawa was found in the bathroom, while Hackman was found in the kitchen. Medical investigators believe they died about one week apart.
In the footage, you can hear deputies wondering if there is a potential gas leak. “It smells like gas. You smell gas?” one deputy said. New Mexico Gas later found that there was only a small gas leak, which wouldn’t have been enough to be a factor.
This footage came after the first round was released at the end of March. However, that first footage only showed the outside of the home.
