(NewsNation) — Dolly Parton may not work a “9 to 5,” but she’s putting in the work, earning a spot on Forbes’ list of the richest self-made women in America.

The legendary country singer came from humble beginnings, one of 12 children born into a poor family in rural Tennessee. Now 79, Parton rose to fame with her 1967 debut album “Hello, I’m Dolly,” after achieving success as a songwriter for other artists.

In her 60-year career, Parton has amassed a net worth of nearly half a billion dollars.

What is Dolly Parton’s net worth?

Forbes estimates Parton’s net worth at $450 million, though Celebrity Net Worth places her at $650 million.

Known as the “Queen of Country,” Parton is one of the industry’s most respected country artists. Her breakout songs included the 1974 hits “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You.” She went on to record dozens of studio albums and thousands of songs, including “9 to 5,” totalling about $120 million, Forbes estimates.

Although she’s earned much from her singing career, the bulk of Parton’s money comes from her theme park, Dollywood, according to Forbes. She invested in the Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, attraction in 1986, eventually adding a hotel and water park.

Outside her singing career, Parton has invested time and money into philanthropic efforts, primarily through the Dollywood Foundation. In 2022, she received $100 million from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to give away to a charity of her choice.
