PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Police in Priceville, Alabama, say they’ve placed Officer Garry Chapman, son of reality TV star Dog the Bounty Hunter, on administrative leave following a deadly weekend police chase.

Authorities said the chase began Saturday night in Priceville, about 30 miles outside of Huntsville, when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for moving violations and suspicion of driving under the influence.

The ensuing chase continued into nearby Hartselle, where police say the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle carrying four teenage boys.

Six people were taken to the hospital, police said: the suspect, his passenger, and four boys riding in the vehicle that was struck. One of those teens was 17-year-old Tristan Hollis, who died as a result of the incident, Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn confirmed.

Hartselle Police said Archie Brandon Hale, the suspect in the vehicle involved in the chase, is in the hospital and will be for an extended period of time.

Priceville Police confirmed earlier this week that the officer involved, since identified as Chapman, had been placed on administrative leave as an internal investigation is conducted.

Chapman’s social media, reviewed by Nexstar’s WHNT, shows he is the son of Duane Chapman, – star of “Dog the Bounty Hunter” – and Beth Chapman, who died of throat cancer in 2019.

Speaking to WHNT over the phone, Priceville Mayor Sam Heflin said Tuesday that it is standard procedure for any officers involved in a major incident to be placed on leave pending an investigation.

Garry Chapman is also named in a lawsuit filed by the family of John Scott Jr., who died in police custody after an extended interaction with the Decatur Police Department in April. He was featured on the Priceville Police Department’s social media the same month.
