This undated file photo provided by 20th Century Fox, shows Meryl Streep, playing Miranda Priestly, a capricious and fear-inspiring fashion editor, in the new film,”The Devil Wears Prada.” Streep, a chameleon whose face transforms from movie to movie, has worked with the same makeup artist and hair stylist, J. Roy Helland, on every one of her films since the early ’80s, when she snagged an Oscar for “Sophie’s Choice.” Their professional pairing is the kind most actors can only covet. Variety reported that the sequel will follow Streep’s character as she “navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”
Earlier this month, Blunt told Entertainment Tonight that she hasn’t read the script just yet, but did ask, “Why are Meryl and I so mean to each other in every movie we do?” She added, “We always have beef with each other. I don’t know what it is. Let’s hope we remedy it. I’m not sure.”
Rumors of a sequel have been swirling since February 2024, when fans were excited to see Streep, Hathaway and Blunt reunite at the 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. But then, in April 2024, Hathaway said she “wouldn’t hold out too much hope” for a sequel.
Then, in October 2024, Tucci told People, “If it does happen, I can only say that I’ll be happy.” The sequel is set to be released on May 1, 2026, according to media outlets.
