(NewsNation) — Video game “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” took home a record-breaking nine awards at the Game Awards 2025, including the title of “Game of the Year.”

The RPG beat out “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” “Donkey Kong Bananza,” “Hades 2,” “Hollow Knight: Silksong,” and “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2” for the title of 2025’s top game.

Dressed in a red beret and black-and-white stripes, the game’s director, Guillaume Broche, thanked the team at game developer Sandfall Interactive and the “unsung heroes” of the industry.

“The people who make tutorials on YouTube on how to make a game, because we had no idea how to make a game before,” Broche said. “So, thank you.”

“Clair Obscur” also won Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game and Best RPG.

Jennifer English, who voices Maelle in the game, also won Best Performance.

The game was nominated for the Best Audio Design and Players’ Voice categories, but lost to “Battlefield 6” and “Wuthering Waves,” respectively.

“Clair Obscur” is Sandfall Interactive’s debut title.
