(NewsNation) — Chevy Chase has opened up about a professional decision he regrets: Leaving “Saturday Night Live.”
Chase, an original cast member of the sketch comedy show, revealed how he felt about leaving the show in a new trailer for CNN Films’ “I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not.”
“It was a mistake to leave SNL,” the 82-year-old comedian said in the trailer.
Chase was a staple in the show’s inaugural season in 1975 and was the first host of the long-running “Weekend Update,” which has had many hosts in the last 50 years, including Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers. It is now hosted by Colin Jost and Michael Che.
The “Community” actor left the show in the middle of the show’s second season, deciding to pursue a career in Hollywood, starring in “Three Amigos” and the “National Lampoon” movies.
The documentary features sit-downs with Martin Short, Goldie Hawn and “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels.
“I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not” premieres on New Year’s Day.
