(NewsNation) — Upper East Side women are abuzz over who will be in the next housewives cast for Bravo’s “Real Housewives of NYC” after this season’s disastrous turn.
Two years ago Bravo decided to revamp the series after a series of scandals, including accusations of racism within the cast.
But the new cast members, including JCrew alum Jenna Lyons, Brynn Whitfield, Jessel Taank, Sai DeSilva and Erin Lichtenstein (all of whom, except for Lyons, were not known on the social scene before filming), aren’t gelling and are “ratings disaster,” sources said.
Critics rip ‘awful’ Real Housewives reboot
Reviewers like the Huffington Post called the reboot “boring” with “stupid drama,” and audiences (and producers) agree… even with the recent scandal thrown in, “It’s still not compelling — it’s just awful,” my insider told me.
The series got even more unpalatable for audiences during the finale.
According to People:
“Brynn found herself in hot water and on the outs after she accused Ubah Hassan of knowingly calling her a ‘w—-‘ after she confided in the model about a prior sexual assault.
The accusation drove Ubah, 41, to tears and vomit as she adamantly denied knowing about her assault. Brynn told the Housewives that she had told Ubah before BravoCon 2023 after one of her loved ones attempted suicide. In the middle of her ‘rant,’ Brynn claimed she mentioned her sexual assault — though she admitted she was ‘hysterical’ and wasn’t sure if Ubah had registered her words.
The moment she confessed there was a possibility Ubah hadn’t ‘clocked’ the information, the Housewives told cameras they felt like Brynn had intentionally lied in order to turn them against Ubah.”
The show’s ratings have plummeted from a high of millions to an average of 250,000 viewers per week — one of the lowest-rated series in the “Housewives” franchise and way below “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” which averaged four million viewers this season.
The insider added: “The women (of the current cast) didn’t know each other before the show. Unlike the original with Luann (DeLesseps), Ramona (singer), Sonja (Morgan) and Jill (Zaria) they weren’t actually friends before — and clearly aren’t meshing at all and have no chemistry… not to mention who even are they? And why are they so boring and annoying?”
So Bravo producers are trying to recast.
”They’ve been calling around,” one prominent socialite told me. “But who wants that? My husband told me if I went on that show he’d divorce me… no thank you!”
A rep for Bravo didn’t return emails.
