(NewsNation) — Boston University announced it will undergo an external review to get recommendations for enhancing its athletics department’s current policies and best practices, according to reports.

BU Today, Boston University’s digital newspaper, shared the university’s statement Thursday. However, that statement doesn’t address “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper’s allegations against her former soccer coach.

Instead, it focuses on a story that was published by The Boston Globe, which brought to light allegations against Casey Brown, the women’s head soccer coach who left her position last year.

That statement read, in part, “Concerns were raised in the fall of 2024 about then-head women’s soccer coach, Casey Brown. Within days of receiving those initial complaints, BU launched an external investigation… [which] found no evidence of sexual harassment and no BU policy violations.”

University officials said that, despite the investigation findings, the university and Brown “parted ways.”

Boston University ‘invites external review’ of policies, practices

The statement also read, “BU is committed to continually evaluating and seeking new best practices to enhance our program. … As part of that commitment, we invite a new external review to look at our policies, processes and other practices.”

The university also said they want students to “raise concerns” and said all reports “are addressed in ways that are consistent, lawful and focused on the well-being of our athletes.”

The statement ended with, “The university takes harassment and sexual harassment, as well as reporting, seriously. We look forward to an external review’s recommendations that can provide suggestions for continued improvements as we strive for excellence in our athletic program.”

Former BU soccer coach given support after Alex Cooper’s claims

Cooper recently accused her former coach, Nancy Feldman, of sexual harassment in her two-part Hulu docuseries, “Call Her Alex.” The docuseries follows Cooper’s rise to stardom and first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 8.

Following those allegations, alumnae of the university’s women’s soccer team released a letter supporting Feldman. Ninety-nine former players and assistant coaches signed the letter, with a copy obtained by NBC News. The document says that the authors aim “not to diminish or discredit anyone’s individual experience, but to speak as a united group of alumni about how our time in the program was different.”

The letter states, “During Coach Feldman’s time leading the program, we categorically never felt unsafe. We were never at risk or witness to inappropriate behavior or anything that could be characterized as sexual harassment.”

Cooper, however, claims that Feldman was “fixated” on her during her sophomore year, commenting on her body and asking about her sex life. Her parents backed these allegations and claimed they reported the former coach’s alleged behavior to university officials, but nothing was done.

“There was no accountability, no investigation and no justice,” Cooper wrote on Instagram. “Nancy Feldman was someone I trusted. Someone I believed in. Someone who was supposed to help me grow. … But instead, she made my life a living hell and abused her power over me.”

Feldman retired in 2022 and hasn’t commented on the allegations. The university did release a statement when the allegations were first revealed, saying, “Boston University has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment. … We encourage members of our community to report any concerns, and we remain committed to fostering a safe and secure campus environment for all.”
