(NewsNation) — “Boston Blue” co-creators are defending their decision to recast a character that appeared in “Blue Bloods.”

Earlier this year, CBS announced that Mika Amonsen would be playing Sean Reagan, replacing actor Andrew Terraciano.

Amonsen made his debut on the series premiere on Friday, Oct. 17.

The creators, Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, spoke to TV Insider on their decision to recast the character for the “Blue Bloods” spinoff.

“We wanted a slightly different version of Sean. We wanted a character that feels familiar, an actor that does resemble the character that we watched grow up,” Margolis said. “But as you saw in the pilot, he has made some life changes and having joined the police force, he is really picking up that family mantle.”

“In ‘Boston Blue,’ Donnie Wahlberg reprises his role as NYPD Detective Danny Reagan, who takes a position with the Boston Police Department and is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family,” according to TV Insider.

“As Reagan settles into his new city, he also hopes to reconnect with his younger son, Sean (Amonsen), who is beginning his own career in Boston.

“Blue Bloods” aired on CBS for 14 seasons.
