(WAVY) – Big news from Best Buy for gamers excited about the Nintendo Switch 2.

Anticipation has been growing for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 ever since the company announced the highly coveted console in January.

It has been eight years since the release of the Nintendo Switch 2’s predecessor, the Nintendo Switch, and in that time the console has sold over 150 million units, making it the second highest selling system in the company’s history.

The long-awaited follow-up features upgraded internals allowing for higher-fidelity visuals and gameplay, new controllers that provide improved comfort and a new mouse input, as well as a new online game chat allowing video and audio communication between players.

Pre-orders for the console, games and accessories became available April 24.

“There are some moments gamers don’t forget, and one of those is the excitement and anticipation that comes with being one of the first to get the hot new console on launch night,” said Patrick McGinnis, chief merchandising officer at Best Buy. “We can’t wait to bring that moment to life with the Nintendo Switch 2, and help customers level up their gaming experience.”

As reported by the Associated Press, Nintendo said it would be “working diligently to fulfill orders,” but noted that delivery by June 5 was not guaranteed. The company urged customers who want to increase their chances of getting the console at the launch date to visit a participating retailer.
