(The Hill) — Bravo host Andy Cohen took aim at former New York City Mayor Eric Adams early Thursday, slamming his tenure leading the nation’s largest city as “chaotic” and “horrible” as his successor, Zohran Mamdani, was sworn in.
“Watching the final moments of Mayor Adams’ chaotic, horrible … I just want to say, he got his pardons … No, I’m just saying. Great, you got your pardons. Go off into the sunset. We’ll fiddle with what we have, with what you’ve left us with,” Cohen said shortly after midnight while co-hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve show.
“Go dance away,” he continued. “We’ll see you at all the parties. You’ve partied your way through four years.”
Cohen’s co-host Anderson Cooper and actor B.J. Novak, who joined the pair on the show, attempted to rein him in with little success.
“Andy, Andy, we’ve got to cut you off. I’ve seen this happen,” Novak said, seemingly referring to Cohen’s 2022 rant about former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio on the show, which resulted in a brief ban on alcohol consumption on the typically boozy New Year’s Eve broadcast.
Cohen conceded Thursday that Adams had “dented the rat population” during his term. Adams declared a “War on Rats,” appointing a so-called “rat czar” to address the city’s rodent problems. Last month, he signed an executive order creating a new office dedicated to “rodent mitigation.”
However, he faced numerous controversies as mayor, particularly his indictment in 2024 on bribery charges. The charges were ultimately dismissed in April after the Justice Department argued they were interfering with federal immigration efforts.
Mamdani, was sworn in as the city’s 112th mayor shortly after midnight in a private ceremony at an abandoned subway station near City Hall. He was publicly sworn in later Thursday, where he gave an address defending his ambitious agenda for the city.
